Underwater Noise Study of the Salish Sea

Transport Canada is working to reduce the impacts of underwater noise on the Southern Resident Killer Whales and other marine life. This survey, undertaken by Vard Marine on behalf of Transport Canada, aims to develop an understanding of the prevalence of underwater noise in the Salish Sea, produced by acoustic/echolocation devices such as echosounders and fish finders.

Your responses will be kept completely anonymous and confidential, but if you want to receive additional information on this topic and on the progress of the work, please include your email address at the end of the survey.

Which type of vessel user are you?
Do you have an acoustic device (echosounder/depth finder, fish finder, etc) on your vessel?
What is/are the make(s) of your acoustic device(s)?
The make and model of acoustic devices are the most important questions to establish the underwater noise characteristics.
What is/are the model(s) of your acoustic device(s)?
The make and model of acoustic devices are the most important questions to establish the underwater noise characteristics.
If known, what is the make and model of your transducer? (This couples with acoustic device make/model to help analysts assess aggregate impacts)
What type of vessel do you operate?
Where is your home port?
What year was your vessel built?
What is your vessel's tonnage?
What is the length of your vessel? (please specify one)
What is the engine power? (please provide one)
