Thank you for your interest in becoming a Volunteer Visitor!

At Wesley Mission Queensland, you will find a new way of thinking about volunteering in Residential Aged Care. With the support of our Volunteer Visitors, we encourage our elderly residents to build connections, have fun and celebrate life - all while receiving the care they need.

Our Residential Aged Care Communities are the only ones in Queensland registered with the Eden Alternative™ philosophy of care, which focuses on eliminating loneliness, helplessness and boredom and promoting meaningful relationships and companionship.

What do Volunteer Visitors do?

Volunteer Visitors have a significant impact on the lives of older persons. The connections they build and the support they provide assist in developing pathways for our residents to feel healthier and happier. It's terrific for your own well-being, too!

Our Volunteer Visitors become involved in the following ways:

  • Visiting individual residents - providing friendship and company to an older person living in our residential aged care communities at risk of isolation. Time spent together can include chatting, playing games, going for a walk, working on a hobby, etc. or spending time together in one of the activities happening within the aged care community.
  • Visiting and doing activities with small groups of residents - assisting small groups of residents to participate in and enjoy scheduled fun programs or activities.  If you have special skills or talents you would like to share, we would love to hear about it!
  • Musicians and entertainers - sharing talents or interests with residents.
  • Gardening, groundskeeping and pet care - maintaining pot plants, indoor and outdoor gardens, and assisting with pet care while socialising and discussing with residents.
  • Reception and administration - assisting the administration team with duties, including receiving and coordinating deliveries.
  • Micro-volunteering - connecting with individuals digitally or via the phone for a 15-minute weekly chat or sending cards or letters regularly.
As a Volunteer Visitor, you will see your actions making a difference every day!
