Recognising high quality overseas certified building products and standards
The Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment (MBIE) is seeking industry feedback on the decision-making criteria to be set in regulations after the Building (Overseas Building Products, Standards, and Certification Schemes) Amendment Bill (the Bill) passes.
Without regulations, changes being introduced by the Bill cannot be implemented and the current regulatory barriers to using high quality overseas building products will remain.
Full details of this proposal can be found in the linked discussion document below. We recommend you read this document before giving feedback.

Next steps
Your feedback will be collated and analysed along with the other responses. MBIE may contact you if we need clarification or more information on your response.
Following consideration of the submissions, MBIE will provide advice on the content of the regulations to the Minister for Building and Construction. The new regulations are expected to come into force in quarter three 2025, at which point recognitions of overseas certified building products and standards can begin.
Timing
The survey will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. This survey is open and will close at 5.00pm on Thursday 17 April 2025.
