RESEARCH CONSENT AND AUTHORIZATION FORM

TITLE: Mind2Mind: Selected pairs with telepathic experiences

PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR: Dean Radin, research@noetic.org

FUNDED BY: BIAL Foundation

PURPOSE: The Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) is conducting a study to explore the phenomenon of mind-to-mind communication, often referred to as telepathy. If you are either a twin or emotionally bonded to another person and have experienced two or more instances of mind-to-mind connections, such as knowing or feeling what someone else thinks or feels, you may be eligible to participate. The study’s overall goal is to identify 100 pairs of individuals who can demonstrate strong telepathic bonds to participate in future lab-based neuroscience studies of mind-to-mind communication in twins and bonded pairs. By contributing to this study, you will help advance our understanding of telepathic communications and their implications.

PROCEDURES: As a participant in this study, you will be asked to complete several surveys designed to gather information about your relationship with your twin or emotionally bonded partner, as well as any unusual experiences you may have had in the past. Initially, you will complete a short survey asking questions about your contact and demographic information, relationship to your partner, questions about your shared mind-mind communication experiences, how emotionally close you feel to them, how often you communicate, and how far away you live from one another. If you are selected and agree to participate in the next phase of the study, you will be invited to share an invitation link to a second survey with your partner. If you both agree, you and your partner will complete a 20-minute survey that will ask questions about how you experience your intuition, empathetic feelings to others, and your perceptions about emotional boundaries between yourself and others. For the third phase of this study, if you are selected and wish to proceed, you and your partner will complete a third survey asking questions about interconnectedness and well-being, and you will also participate in online tasks, with a combined duration of approximately 20 minutes.

ACCESS TO SURVEY RESULTS: All participants will receive the same follow-up email after the survey data has been analyzed. That will contain anonymous information about the group results. Individual results will not be shared, and any reports we produce will not include any identifying information.

RISKS: There are no known risks from participating in this study. Some of the questions we ask you in this survey may seem very personal, and you may choose to not answer any question. Because this is a research study, if you decide to discontinue the survey, your data may or may not be used in the research study.

BENEFITS: There is no direct compensation for your participation. You may or may not directly benefit from being in this study. You may indirectly benefit from being part of a research study and learning about the study results in the future.

ALTERNATIVES: You may choose to not be in this study. Your participation is strictly voluntary and you may discontinue the study activities anytime with impunity.
CONFIDENTIALITY: This is a non-anonymous survey. Your name and contact information and responses will be stored on password-protected computers. Any reporting of the data or results will be strictly anonymous. Your identity and contact information will only be used exclusively for this study. We require that information only so we can match your survey results to the correct individuals. All identifying data will be destroyed after the study is complete.

COSTS:
It will not cost you anything to participate in this study.

PARTICIPATION:
If you have any questions, concerns, or complaints regarding this study now or in the future, contact Helané Wahbeh, (707) 779-8230. This research is being overseen by an Institutional Review Board (“IRB”). You may talk to the IRB Chair, Garret Yount, PhD by emailing him at gyount@noetic.org if:

  • Your questions, concerns, or complaints are not being answered by the research team.
  • You want to talk to someone besides the research team.
  • You have questions about your rights as a research subject.
  • You want to get more information or provide input about this research.
You do not have to join this or any research study. If you do join the study and later change your mind, you have the right to quit at any time. If you choose not to join any or all parts of this study, or if you withdraw early from any or all parts of the study, there will be no penalty or loss of benefits to which you are otherwise entitled.
