The San Francisco County Transportation Authority, in coordination with the SFMTA and the San Francisco Planning Department, is studying a potential new rail subway under Geary Boulevard and 19th Avenue, as part of the Geary/19th Avenue Subway and Regional Connections Study.

This subway investment was recommended in the Transportation Authority’s San Francisco Transportation Plan, after being identified in ConnectSF, San Francisco’s long-range transportation planning process. The purpose of the current study is to lay out the strategic choices and planning considerations for this potential major capital investment. The project’s goal is to better connect communities both within San Francisco and to the broader Bay Area while advancing and addressing our city’s long-term transportation, climate, and housing goals and needs.
