We have a potential opportunity to create a new watersports centre in the south-east of the city, where Eastney Esplanade meets Henderson Road. This ambition was set out in the Council’s Seafront Masterplan in 2013 and was also included into the updated plan in 2021.

This area of the seafront has become a hotspot for kiteboarding and kitesurfing over the past decade. This led to the city hosting the Formula Kite European Championships in 2023.

Creating a watersports centre will create a hub for these sports, alongside others such as open water rowing, kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding. We need your help in deciding what the centre could have, for example do you want to see showering and changing facilities, somewhere to leave valuables, a café, restaurant, retail spaces or creative studios?

A swimming pool will not be included in these proposals. This is because brand-new swimming facilities will be available 800 metres away in Bransbury Park, when the new health and wellbeing hub opens in 2027.

To help us deliver the right facilities, we want your opinions.

The survey will close at midnight on Friday 9th May 2025.
