GYSD Community Need Service Project Application
The Michigan Community Service Commission (MCSC), in partnership with Youth Service America (YSA), is pleased to announce the availability of grants to support organizations in hosting volunteer service projects for Global Youth Service Day (GYSD), April 29-May 1. Grants from $100 to $1,000 are available. Applications will be reviewed based on their demonstrated effort in engaging youth in the development and implementation of the GYSD projects.
Preference will be given to volunteer projects that address the following issues, but projects may address any community need.
· Environment
· Climate change
· Equity and Justice
Grant Awards: Grant awards are based on the quality of the project plan and the total number of youth volunteers engaged.
$1,000 - Engage 100+ youth volunteers
$750 - Engage 75-100 youth volunteers
$500 - Engage 50-74 youth volunteers
$250 - Engage 26-49 youth volunteers
$100 - Engage 1 - 25 youth volunteers
Budget Considerations: It is preferred that funds must be used to support elements of a service project. In addition to the grant request, organizations should consider partnerships for additional supplies and needs.
Who Can Apply: National service grantees, nonprofit organizations, K-12, and higher education institutions are eligible to apply.
Mask Project
MCSC is also offering youth volunteers the opportunity to help minimize the spread of COVID-19 by sewing child and adult cloth masks. All individuals or agencies requesting masks to sew, will receive a kit via mail and there is not a financial grant that accompanies this volunteer opportunity. Masks kits can be ordered to be sewn for any time in the upcoming year. You can apply for a kit here: https://www.research.net/r/GYSDMask22
COVID-19 Safety: Service Projects can be conducted virtually or in-person. If your project will be conducted in-person, you must submit a plan that outlines what protocols will be in place to ensure the safety of those in service and those that are being served to prevent the spread of COVID-19. All in-person projects must practice Center for Disease Control and State of Michigan guidelines.
Deadline to apply is extended to April 6th. Please note there is a budget form at the end of the application. If you cannot open it or attach it, please email sherrym2@michigan.gov and it will be emailed directly to you.
