We at The National Research & Training Center (NRTC) on Blindness and Low Vision at Mississippi State University are developing a mobile application reminder system focused on transition and independence, leading to successful employment as an adult. This transition information resource will be for use by three types of users:  youth with blindness or low vision who are ages 16 to 24; parents of youth ages 4 to 24 with blindness or low vision; and parents of youth ages 4 to 24 who are deafblind or have a combined hearing and vision impairment and additional disabilities.

It will cover the ages of preschool through the end of the youth’s education, with the intention of helping youth who are blind or deafblind become as independent as possible, including preparing for employment upon completion of their education. This resource will be in the format of a mobile app for use on a smart phone or in a web browser, and will provide information, recommend activities, and link to resources that will educate and support families with a growing youth who is blind, has low vision, or has a combined hearing and vision impairment with additional disabilities.

The app will go through many stages of development, and along the way, we will ask for insight from people like you—parents or youth who would be potential users of the app.

We currently have one upcoming opportunity for participation:

  • Field testing of the app by youth and parents – summer and fall 2019

By providing us with your contact information now, you are simply agreeing to be contacted for possible opportunities to participate in the development of the app. You are under no obligation to participate in any study activity.

Below, we will ask for contact information and some categorizing information about you or your child. Your information will not be shared with any other organizations.
